with a hammer – yaeji
⭐: ‘For Granted‘, ‘I’ll Remember for Me, I’ll Remember for You‘, ‘Happy‘, ‘Away X5‘
air guitar – sobs
this is a perfect ‘taking a walk on a sunny day’ album, quintessential indie pop from the moment you hit play. i would have been soooo annoying about this album in 2014. it’s always nice to return to my roots, which was filled with albums like this one as i distanced myself from christianity and, by extension, christian rock.
⭐: ‘LOML‘, ‘Friday Night‘, ‘Lucked Out‘
創業 – punipunidenki
very late arrival, i think i got this off bandcamp on the 27th after reading the april 25th daily post (i think i ended up getting everything from this article, every album is a great pick).
jazzy, dancey, lowkey sorta sexy(?), this album is getting soooo much play from me currently, especially at work where i have lots of time right now to do solitary, menial tasks that don’t require my brain.
⭐ ‘君はQueen‘, ‘Night Session‘, ‘Neon Ocean‘, ‘empties‘
fav tracks
{these are just 5 tracks i really liked this month}
‘sunburn’ – spill tab
another rock climbing playlist banger. doing some research i discovered that solomonophonic helped produced this track, which totally makes sense because he also worked with remi wolf and the influences are very clear here. this got a lot of play, as i said, while climbing, but also while i did dishes. iykyk i guess
‘high hopes‘ – sweet pill
channeling the version of jade that used to listen to lots of paramore, four year strong, something corporate, etc etc.
i don’t listen to a ton of music like this anymore but this track really hit for me, and i think it’s largely because of the singer’s voice: raw, strained, beautiful.
‘moon canyon park‘ – pearl & the oysters
let’s run the list back.
- harps
- ethereal, resonant vocals
- the song title has the word ‘moon’ in it
- the breakdown is like smth out of a story about tiny rodents living in a tree
you see what i’m getting at, right?
‘care for you‘ – the marías
the music video for this song features the titular maría in a waterfall-adjacent lagoon surrounded by many beautiful women and holding an albino snake while she sings. and it’s awesome.
even if i hadn’t seen the video and you told me that’s what was happening, i would instantly believe you because that’s also what the song sounds like.
this song is like a dream, like a lullaby; and as one descends into the haze of sleep, what can be heard is that comforting voice echoing faintly above: ‘i know, i know, i know….’
‘the Perfect Idiot‘ – Fievel Is Glaque
i’ve never seen anyone talk about this band before, and really i only found them because their other album Flaming Swords features… well, two flaming swords on the album art, and that really speaks to me.
if you like jazz fusion then you will likely love what’s going on here, i know i certainly do.
